The Ochosi candle is burned to invoke this Yoruba orisha who is considered the Divine Hunter and embodies justice amongst the orishas. He is Obatala’s personal hunter and translator. Ochosi is known as the most skilled archer in the world, seeks out truth, and is of high moral and ethical standards. The Ochosi candle can be burned for assistance in legal issues to balance the scales of justice, truth, and protection.
Offerings for Ochosi include but are not limited to: doves, roosters, pork, Star Anise, fennel, pears, grapes, plantains, bananas, etc. In order to do the Ochosi candle ritual, place a clean glass of water on your altar then write your petition on a torn piece of parchment paper or brown paper bag. Place the petition underneath your Ochosi candle and next to your offerings. If you have a statute of Ochosi then spray it with a good-smelling men’s cologne. If you don’t have one then you can spray the outside of the candle. Light a Dragon’s Blood Incense stick then draw a pentacle inside of the wax of the candle with the wick being in the center. Anoint your candle with three drops of Indian Tobacco oil or any type of court case oil. Light your candle while reciting the 5th Psalm. Once the candle has finished, take the empty candle along with the offerings and leave it on the grounds of the court or out in the forest next to a tree. For added results, petition Elegua first and give him his offering to ask for permission to work with Ochosi.
