Cascarilla Powder (2 pc)

Cascarilla powder, also known as Efun in the Yoruba religion, is a protective mixture of crushed eggshell powder and Holy Water. This mixture has been blessed with ceremonial prayers and is associated with the Orisha Obatala. In Santeria, Cascarilla powder is to be used: in any spiritual bath, to rub on the body from the shoulders down, or in floor washes for purification and protection. Add it to your floor wash along with a couple of ounces of Florida Water or 1800 Cologne along with some ammonia and mop from the back of the home to the front.

For extra protection in the home, you can draw crosses with it on windows and doors with prayers for protection. Other common uses of Cascarilla powder as a protective shield include drawing crosses: on the soles of the feet, on the back of the neck, and mixed with coconut water to be added to the crown of the head. Cascarilla powder is also commonly used in Haitian Vodou and New Orleans Voodoo outside of cornmeal to draw veves to summon the Lwa.

In Vodou, Cascarilla is often used to draw protective symbols, veves, or markings on floors, doorways, and ritual spaces. These markings serve as spiritual barriers, helping to keep unwanted energies out while inviting clarity and balance within. It may also be applied lightly to the body—on the forehead, hands, or feet—for personal protection and grounding during spiritual work.

Additionally, Cascarilla can be sprinkled around the home, added to cleansing rituals, or used to seal and protect altars. Its presence is believed to create a calm, purified environment where spiritual communication and ritual practice can take place safely. Simple yet powerful, Cascarilla remains an essential tool for protection, cleansing, and maintaining spiritual harmony.
